Understanding Your Insurance

It’s very important to understand how your medical insurance in the United States works. This information will be crucial if you need to claim insurance due to an accident, injury, or sickness while in the USA. You must be insured from the day you depart to the United States until you arrive back home to be in line with J1 visa regulations.

It is your responsibility to ensure your insurance dates match your travel dates.

There are two types of insurance in the USA - Workers Compensation and Medical Treatment Coverage. The information below applies to most Camp Leaders participants.

Workers Compensation Insurance Coverage

While carrying out your assigned duties at camp, you are covered by this special type of insurance. This is a policy provided by your camp program to provide insurance coverage during the scope of your employment.

Important: If you have an injury caused by or related to your work at camp you do not need to worry about deductibles or payments - your camp will take care of it.

If you are unsure if the treatment needed is covered by worker’s compensation or your own insurance, please reach out to our US office.

Medical Treatment Insurance Coverage

Medical treatment in the United States is provided by private companies and is very expensive. J1 visa regulations require 100,000 USD insurance coverage. Each Camp Leaders participant is covered by standard medical insurance for 250,000 USD. It can be upgraded, so the maximum coverage will be 2,000.000 USD.

Important: Camp Leaders medical insurance does not cover work-related injuries, your claim will be rejected. You must use your camp’s workers compensation insurance in this case.

Important Terminology

Deductible

This is the dollar amount of Eligible Expenses which must be incurred and paid by the Insured before benefits are payable under the Policy.

In the United States the healthcare sector is owned by private companies. In most cases, you will be asked to pay upfront a small, fixed portion of the medical bill. This is called deductible. The amount of deductible varies based on medical facility.

If you choose to go to a walk-in clinic or doctor’s office your deductible will be $20, if you make a decision of going to urgent care then the deductible will be $50. In other cases (if this is not a hospital Emergency Room) it will be $100 per medical visit, or $50 if you have chosen to upgrade your insurance.

If you have any questions relating to insurance or deductible while in the United States, check your MyInsurance profile at Esecutive. If you can’t find information you need, we encourage you to reach out to our US office for assistance.

Emergency Room

If you were injured or there is a life-threatening incident, then you will be admitted to the Emergency Room (ER). ERs are only for serious or life-threatening cases. Before going to the ER, please call GBG Assist. Please keep in mind, that there is an addition co-pay of $350 (on top of $50 or $100 regular deductible) if your visit will not end up with hospitalization or it was not injury.

It is extremely important that the insurance company - GBG Assist 1-800- 817-4345 and the US Camp Leaders office 1-866-803-7643 office are notified immediately prior to going to the Emergency Room.

Recommended if DialCare is not an option

We recommend that you visit Urgent Care for any illness/minor medical emergency that is not life-threatening. Urgent care is similar to a walk-in clinic, or your family doctor. You can find the nearest urgent care or walk-in clinic in your MyInsurance portal.

Aetna affiliate doctors will bill esecutive directly and you would not need to worry about submitting claims form. To find a medical treatment provider, please log in to MyInsurance portal and use the search engine feature to find the nearest facility/doctor that works with AETNA.

Your insurance policy also includes a premium service called DialCare. You have direct access to state-licensed and fully credentialed doctors, via phone or video consultations, to receive treatment and advice for common ailments, including colds, flu, rashes and more.
